Wednesday's Woman: Sister From a Different Mister

Today’s guest blogger is herself a Wednesday’s Woman celebrated back in October of 2012:  Inspiring Joyful Lives.  Since then, Angela Shelton (author, actor, orator) has started two more blogs—City to Country Life and Write Mommy Write.  Both are great and you’ll surely be impressed by all of her projects linked at AngelaShelton.com.  She inspires me.  She inspires many.  And I’m grateful she took some time to tell us about a woman who inspires all that inspiration.

Wednesday's Woman:
 Sister From a Different Mister

Have you ever met someone who instantly fit into your life as if they were meant to be there all along? I have that with my adopted sister Lindsay Eberts.

When I first met her she sprang from her seat and her hands flew in the air as she announced in a loud theatrical voice, “ Where have you been?!!”

I felt the same way!

How had we missed each other all these years? Why were we not in grade school together? How did we miss those tree house days? Where was she when I lost my virginity? Where was I when she had her first kiss? I mean – we had A LOT of catching up to do!

There on a cold day in January in Park City, Utah years ago now, we met for the first time – in this lifetime anyway!

We’ve been sisters ever since. Calling her my sister is not a big deal at all seeing that we look alike too. People actually think we’re related which makes me giddy.

It wasn’t just Lindsay who brought me into the sister fold. I was adopted into her family with her mother whom I adore so much I could cry and sing about it and her father, the great Jake, who warms my heart just to say his name.

Lindsay had no problem with me photoshoping myself into her life – literally – and she loved how her dad loved me too. Jake helped me cure so many old neuro pathways in my mind from my not-so-great bio-dad when he called me his daughter. When he passed away last year I cried for a week and I still have tears well up as I write this sentence. Tissue break.

Lindsay also has two brothers David and Zand who I love so much I want to squish their faces off. She won the family lottery for sure, but take her way from her genes of perfection for a moment and out of the limelight of her ridiculously talented family (and the tight unit they are) – and Lindsay stands like a Goddess in her own right – and super bright light.

Lindsay is one of the most caring people I have ever met in my life.

She’s the one who will drive six hours to give you a hug.

She is the one who will make a homemade broth for you – the most delicious you’ve ever tasted – when you’re sick.

She cares so passionately about health, she even has a business and a blog (Lindsay’s Kitchen Workshop aka The Poop Professor!)  where she teaches people about the healing power of food.

She’s the first on my list of mentors for my kids. In fact, Lindsay is now giving me tips on how to eat in order to get pregnant and have a healthy pregnancy so she can get her hands on her little niece of nephew.

You can tell how much she loves the world by how much she loves animals, especially her dog Timmy.

Okay, I have to also throw in a totally curl each other’s hair sister comment: Lindsay is a great human and kind and generous and all that BUT she also has totally perfect hair, perfect wanna-paint-them lips and the most gorgeous eyes you’ve ever seen. Jerk.

For her love of humanity, her kindness, and her huge heart, today’s Wednesday’s Woman is my sister, Lindsay Eberts.

  1. I love this story- especially so because I first met my oldest sister a few years ago- it was amazing. At first, we just stared at each other's features...and were so enthralled. It's been surreal, but beautiful. Glad I have "sisters" who've had similar experiences.

    Cheers!
